Water play is a wonderful learning experience. During water play activities, young children develop their gross motor skills, learn about science, math, and more – all through play. But what about water play for babies?
Baby B loves the water – he is a Pisces after all. He loves bath time, hanging at the river and swimming in the pool. He doesn’t even mind getting his face wet.
When he splashes water with his feet he is learning about cause and effect. The feel of warm water on his skin teaches him about his senses. Listening to a gurgling creek has a calming effect on him.
I love swimming and great adventures as much as Baby B does, but sometimes I want him to benefit from water play without quite as much effort. This safe and easy idea is perfect for those times.
Water Play for Babies
All you need is a high chair, a few ounces of water and a towel for clean up. We use the Fisher-Price Booster Seat (affiliate link) which has a nice deep tray. Secure Baby in the chair and pour a few ounces of water on the tray.
I did this with Baby B on a hot day to help him cool down. On another occasion, it kept him busy while my hubby and I finished our dinner and it even made clean up a little easier. Baby B loves it and it’s so easy, we’ll definitely be doing it again soon!
